The Mortarboard
by Tamara J Wanner
A tassel of remembrance
A taste of the finish line
Clothed in garments of ceremony
Echoes words 'well done'
A scroll of achievement
Crowns the day with delight
Elusive plans for tomorrow
Try to crowd the joy of today
But fear not.
A prayer for you, dear graduate
In the midst of all you've accomplished, our prayer is this for you each day.
May you find true strength in the knowledge of God as your Rock. May you find true joy in intimacy with Him in this journey called life. May you discover the identity given to you by your Creator, unmuddied by conformity, unmuted by the pressures of this life. May you lean on the grace of salvation and soar on the wings of forgiveness. May you always experience the rest of quiet waters and the comfort of His rod and staff in the valley of sorrow and darkness. May God bring you into a community of those who desire to follow Jesus with all of their hearts, soul and mind so you have a place to belong.
As you develop and grow in the different passions God's placed inside you, know that there are seasons of growth and dormancy, drought and abundance or deserts and oases. We pray that you'd be able to trust His heart even if you don't understand the circumstances.
Love,
Mom and Dad
"Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine.
When you pass through the waters,
I will be with you;
and when you pass through the rivers,
they will not sweep over you.
When you walk through the fire,
You will not be burned;
the flames will not set you ablaze.
For I am the Lord, your God,
the Holy One of Israel, your Saviour." (Isaiah 43:1b-3a NIV)
