The Gospel of Peace

tamarajwanner

Millions of people groups long for wars to end. They envision an idyllic scene where their families can enjoy a vista like the scene above. The daily scrabble of survival ceases and a feeling of contentment pervades.

What about you? What kinds of wars do you experience? Do you wrestle with health issues or relationship conflicts? Do you or a loved one battle against anxiety or depression?

Maybe your world fills with craters of loss. The structures of routine levelled by a child in the throes of trauma threaten family unity. A simple journey derails with an accident.

While I type these words, a beautiful hymn reminds me of an invitation to lay down all the burdens at the feet of Jesus. These burdens include our battles, our conflicts, our griefs, our trauma, and the wars that press in on us. The words of Mattew 11:28-30(NIV) reflect the hymn lyrics.

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

Music is one of the ways God restores hope and peace in my life. It's a rare day when no music plays on my phone or in the car. God brings songs to mind to encourage me or lift me up. It's why I've been diligent to guard what I hear. It's why I encouraged my children to listen to artists who declare truth and hope rather than discouragement and lies. The song I've written reflects the true source of peace, Jesus Christ.

"Surely God is my salvation; I will trust and not be afraid. The LORD, the LORD himself, is my strength and my defense ; he has become my salvation.”(Isaiah 12:2 NIV)

Join me and enter the quiet rest of God in the midst of your chaos. The outward circumstances may not shift but God's peace will cradle you in the midst of the swirling winds. His love will overshadow you. His Presence permanent in your life.
