The next phrase, 'your kingdom come' makes me curious. What do you imagine when you think of the word 'kingdom'? As a little girl, a kingdom encompassed an elaborate castle, a kind king and queen and a princess, me. Safety and celebration lay in the walls of the castle.

As a grown woman, the word 'kingdom' encapsulates a unique world where rule is governed by servanthood and sacrifice. This biblical version of 'kingdom' doesn't look like manmade kingdoms. It contrasts hierarchy of power with the choice to be last.

Currently, the world is astir with change. Power struggles abound yet what is our posture in prayer to be: your kingdom come. I don't know which stripe of political objectives match whose beliefs and to be honest, it doesn't matter. The question to ask is do I want to pray 'your kingdom come'. The question I want to ask you is whether you'll pray that line with me.

If you and I can pray that line together, our individual stances yield to it. The kingdoms we build in our own minds and imaginations revolve around us and serve us. When we pray 'your kingdom come', our imaginations need to submit to our Father. It is His name that is worthy of hallowing. It is His kingdom and His kingship over our lives that invites us to walk in the way of sacrifice and servanthood.

Luke 17:20-21(ESV)
Being asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, he answered them, “The kingdom of God is not coming in ways that can be observed, nor will they say, ‘Look, here it is!’ or ‘There!’ for behold, the kingdom of God is in the midst of you.”

Romans 14:17(ESV)
For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking but of righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.

Revelation 11:15(ESV)
Then the seventh angel blew his trumpet, and there were loud voices in heaven, saying, “The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of his Christ, and he shall reign forever and ever.”

Psalm 145:10-13(ESV)
All your works shall give thanks to you, O Lord, and all your saints shall bless you!
They shall speak of the glory of your kingdom and tell of your power, to make known to the children of man your mighty deeds, and the glorious splendor of your kingdom.
Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and your dominion endures throughout all generations.
