Whitewash
By Tamara J Wanner
Brilliant blue orbs
Contrast white walls
Stand out
Stun
Stop traffic
Sweat drips
Smothering heat
Odours drift upwards
Garbage lingers on the streets
Framed blue eyes
Manicured hands
Polished smile
Poised
Perfect selfie
Fears paralyze
Suffocating panic
Lies weave snares
Sin's debris lingers on the soul
Jesus called the Pharisees 'white-washed sepulchres'. Their outsides didn't match their insides. Maybe you and I need to check if our outsides match our insides. The funny thing is nothing I do can change my insides. Yoda's advice, 'there is no 'try' only do' doesn't suffice when it comes to inner righteousness. None of my 'doing' can ever truly transform my 'being'. I am so grateful that
"God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God." 2 Corinthians 5:21
