Maybe 2022 ended with disappointment or maybe it ended with loss. Illness may have prevented or dampened Christmas celebrations. Weather bombs and flight cancellations seemed to be the norm this year. Perhaps the disappearance of all the bustle of Christmas leaves you feeling lost and alone. Do you need a moment to sit with those feelings and acknowledge them? I do.
Faded sunlight echoes my weary heart.
Where does my help come from?
Dried empty husks parallel my shattered soul.
Where does my help come from?
Frozen icicles mirror my immobilized emotions.
Where does my help come from?
Screaming winds swirl all around me.
His voice is not there.
Crashing waves pound the shoreline.
His voice is not there.
Lightning crackles and thunder roars.
His voice is not there.
Be still and know.
Be still and know.
Be still and know that I am God.
I will never leave you nor forsake you.
Come all you who are weary;
I will give you rest.
By Tamara Wanner
Isaiah 30:15a is a favorite verse of mine: This is what the Sovereign Lord, the Holy One of Israel, says: "In repentance and rest is your salvation, in quietness and trust is your strength."
Use the January blues as a time to reflect. Are there things you need to turn away from or let go of? Are there priorities that run you off your feet that need to be abandoned? Do distractions chatter at you all day long, sapping your creativity? Rest, be quiet before the Lord. Gain strength from letting go of your to-do list and trust God to lead you in the next steps. He is faithful to His Word and to all those who cry out to Him.
