"The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of deep darkness a light has dawned." (Isaiah 9:2)
I gaze at this picture and wonder. This is not a place to walk around when it is pitch black. Danger lurks at every point in the dark. Then as the dawn emerges, it paints the treacherous cliffs with light, reveals pathways, and decorates what once was hidden.
When lost in the fog of addiction, when cloaked in murky depths of grief, when rejected and cast aside, darkness clamps down in a solitary cell. When guilt swamps, when the weight of your actions suffocates, when the sum of your mistakes decimates, look to the Son. If you keep reading in Isaiah 9, you discover the power of the Light of the World.
